Kevin Costner’s Eulogy Was A Highlight Of Whitney Houston’s Funeral
Today at Whitney Houston’s funeral, broadcast live on TV and online, there were many touching moments. Alicia Keys talked about her son saying Whitney’s special nickname as she made her way to the funeral, Stevie Wonder admitted he’d always had a little crush on her, and both artists, in addition to R. Kelly and many of her friends performed beautiful songs in her honor.
The service was also full of personal, often funny stories about the late pop star. Her bodyguard (her real body guard, not to be confused with Kevin Costner) spoke about an impromptu road trip he took with Whitney when she was often just as concerned about his safety as he was of hers. He also had a very sweet message to love our stars because they give so much of themselves to their fans, maybe alluding to the negative press Whitney got in more recent years.
One of the most powerful speeches given was the one Kevin Costner delivered. Her The Bodyguard co-star spoke of the church background they shared through cute anecdotes about his own upbringing in the church community. He also talked about his commitment to get Whitney the staring role in The Bodyguard and about how perfectly she performed the role; he sounded truly sincere about his esteem in her performing ability.
The best part of his speech might have been his story about Whitney’s makeup melting off during her read through for The Bodyguard. It was a story that made her seem human and relatable. The entire ceremony made it very evident that Whitney was well loved by everyone who knew her, and that they will always remember her and miss her.
